As I navigate through this adventure of life, I am often under the impression that I am suffering from an existential crisis. What is life? What is the meaning of life? Is there a meaning? However, sometimes I find that I am really just in need of a nap. Here are some helpful tips to figure out if you are having an existential crisis or if you just need some shut eye.
Are you drunk? For the most part a glass of chardonnay or two will perk me up, make me very friendly, and allow me to hold hands with people I normally wouldn’t. However, on the rare occasion I venture into three of four glasses of chardonnay it’s easy to find myself spiraling down into a very harsh vortex of despair in which I can barely figure out why I or anyone else exists on this planet. If you’re drunk, take a nap.
Are you tired, stressed, hungry, in need of a shower? Basic human needs can often get in the way of clear and reasonable thinking. We are all just doing the best we can, so you have to take care of you first. When was the last time you slept? Showered? Ate? Did something just for yourself? If you can’t answer any of those questions, take a nap.
Is it your birthday? Nothing sends you into a time marches on induced panic like the prospect of another earth rotation around the sun, signifying another year of your all too short life gone by. It’s going to be fine. Life does indeed go on and you can handle it. If it’s your birthday, take a nap.
If none of these things apply to you, congratulations you might be in the throws of a full blown existential crisis! When this happens to me, I just read this wikihow article and hope it will all be okay again one day, and then I take a nap.
